Terri Lockwood
My interest in art began in childhood, when I accompanied my mother to galleries and museums in Los Angeles and took summer art courses. In 1970, I began studying ceramics at Antelope Junior College in Lancaster, California, and continued with ceramics classes at California State University, Northridge from 1970 to 1974. I have been part of the Mendocino artists’ community since 1986, and over the years I have explored many forms of artistic expression, including painting, drawing, silk-screen, collage, sculpture, printmaking, and ceramics.
A turning point came in August 1984, when an auto accident and severe concussion changed the course of my life. During my recovery in Napa, I rediscovered my affection and talent for painting, finding it deeply healing and centering. In recent years, my focus has been on my hand-stretched canvas kites, which allow me to bring together my experiences with color, form, movement, and spirit.
Many of these kites take the form of Angels—over 250 so far—each with its own distinct style, personality, and healing presence. Through my work, I hope to inspire people, offer a sense of hope and joy, and help them focus their energies, whether in meditation, rest, or daily life.
