Reflections - Now and Then

'Art is not a reflection of reality, it is the reality of a reflection.' —Jean-Luc Godard

What do we find in the time and space of reflection? We might imagine dancing sparkles of light on water or other surfaces, mirror-like images of actual or imagined encounters in our lives, everchanging appearances of the world around or within us over the course of time. We might commemorate things past or explore the possibilities of what could be.

We invite you to submit works exploring the theme of Reflections to this national juried art exhibition dedicated to pushing the boundaries of artistic interpretation. Your entry should visualize your unique reflection in your chosen medium.

All mediums including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, and jewelry are encouraged to apply and will be reviewed by the jurors.

Guest Juror Esther Siegel:

Esther Siegel is a 'later in life' artist, who emerged from working with making paper in the form of scrapbooking, paper, and card making. Once she discovered she could 'draw and paint' with objects, she was hooked. What she lacked in art education, she made up with enthusiasm and courage. Just as she has always enjoyed putting together ingredients in the kitchen to bake and cook, Esther loves the alchemy of creating interesting combinations of objects in the studio for their new and ?perfect home.' Her need for harmony, love of horses, and interest in psychotherapy are some of her themes and motivators. As a glass half full person, you will often see whimsy, optimism, and lightness in her art.

Guest Juror Spencer Brewer:

Spencer Brewer has been creating art and music all his life, from sculptures and various mediums of art to over 200 produced records, film scores and 17 solo albums to his credit. He has worked on over 20,000 pianos, collecting unique and obscure vintage mechanical artifacts along the way. He creates fantastical pieces of art out of these vintage or unusual materials. The studio, 'Barn of Curiosities, Oddities and Light', is a wonderland of eccentric ephemera and mechanical obscura to use in his assemblage sculptures. He and his wife Esther Siegel recently released their nationally award-winning book 'Lost and Found' Assemblage Artists of Northern California to rave reviews.
