Gwen Lowery
Each piece evolves from an alchemic process that comes out of absorbing news of the day, the state of our world, and by the colors and forms in the rural slice of the northern California coast where I live. This inspiration comes to life in curvilinear forms, active lines—sometimes sharp, sometimes blurred—and textures. Paint is applied with palette knives, squeegees, rags, and brushes, with texture created though applying and removing paint.
More important than the shapes, lines and textures, however, is the interaction between shapes and movement of line; that interaction best expresses the hopelessness, helplessness and frustration I feel about our inability to play well together politically and socially.
